Ivan Aguéli (1869-1917)
- Pionero del arte moderno sueco

John Gustaf Agelii nació en Sala en 1869. A los 21 años se fue a Paris para estudiar arte. Mientras estuvo alli vivió una vida bohemia y vivió diferentes influencias políticas y religiosas, así como las del arte de Cézanne, van Gogh, Gauguin y otros.

Fue un brillante lingüista y tambien estudió cultura oriental. Cambió su nombre por Ivan Aguéli. Más tarde se convirtió al Islam. Dejó de pintar durante diez años y se dedicó a estudiar el Corán y lenguas orientales y a escribir artículos de crítica de arte.

1911-1917 fue un periodo productivo en su trabajo artístico. Pasó la mayor parte de su vida viajando por Francia, Egipto y España.

Ivan Aguéli murió tragicamente en España a los 48 años en un accidente de tren.

- a pioneer of Swedish modern art

John Gustaf Agelii was born in Sala in 1869. At the age of 21 he went to Paris to study art. While there he lived a bohemian life and came under the influence of different political and religious movements, as well as the art of Cézanne, van Gogh, Gauguin and others.

He was a brilliant linguist and also a student of Oriental culture. He changed his name to Ivan Aguéli. Later he converted to Islam. He gave up painting for 10 years and devoted his time to studying the Koran and Oriental languages and writing articles on art criticism.


1911-1917 was a very productive painting period. He spent most of his life abroad in countries such as France, Egypt and Spain.
Ivan Aguéli died tragically in Spain at the age of 48, as a result of a railway accident.
